Sales BCD Group increased by over 5% in 2013
Zeist, The Netherlands, 24 March 2014 – Despite relentless market challenges, the international travel company BCD Group earned annual sales to the sum of US$ 24 billion in 2013, including US$ 9.2 billion in partner sales. This amounts to an increase of over 5% compared to 2012. EBITDA before one-off items rose slightly to US$ 128 million.
Our subsidiary BCD Travel, a market leader in business travel, leveraged its global network through the acquisition of Travelocity Business (TBiz) in North America and by pursuing a larger ownership stake in Dubai and Brazil. “The economic climate in Europe remains a challenge,” said Joop Drechsel, CEO of BCD Group. “But growing demand in other parts of the world has compensated for that in our overall results.” BCD Travel earned US$ 1 billion in sales from new customers and achieved a customer retention rate of 97%.
In response to the growing use by business travelers of mobile devices for information on the go, and even booking, BCD Travel introduced a new mobile travel app designed to help customers travel smart and achieve more. Joop Drechsel: “Our online travel company Travix shifted its focus to an e-commerce portfolio, necessitating a one-off adjustment in organizational structure, reducing the number of FTEs. We optimized the existing websites for CheapTickets and Vliegwinkel, among others, and are developing a new online platform: gowithMax.” The platform will be rolled out in 2014.
The past year was also successful for Park 'N Fly and Parkmobile International. Park 'N Fly expanded in San Francisco and, through the online booking system, more and more customers booked a prepaid parking space at around 85 locations throughout North America. Parkmobile International welcomed its 2 millionth user, increasing its American market share to 60%. As a provider of innovative parking solutions, Parkmobile International is now active at 550 locations in 35 states, generating more than 11.2 million transactions in 2013.
Growth in 2014
BCD Travel’s independent travel consultancy division, Advito, recently published its Industry Forecast 2014. Global demand for travel is expected to keep pace with anticipated economic recovery, which means we look forward to further growth in 2014.
